OTHELLO, a town in the western part of Adams County, named by H. R. Williams, Vice-President of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway Company, after the Shakespearean play. (H. R. Williams, in Names MSS. Letter 530). "From names given to adjoining towns and stations Corfu, Smyrna and Jericho,it seems probable that the misdemeanor was committed by a student and Shakespeare and the Bible." (G. W. Ogden, in Names MSS. Letter 385).
