Town of Mansfield Douglas County, Washington
The name “Mansfield” was coined in 1905 by R. E. Darling, who wished to honor his Ohio hometown of the same name. The Ohio town was named after Colonel Jared Mansfield, once surveyor-general of the United States. The Great Northern Railroad Station here was originally called Appledale until the station name was moved to the Moses Coulee.

MANSFIELD, a town in the northern part of Douglas County, named about 1905 by R. K Darling in honor of his home town in Ohio. (B. C. Ferguson, in Names MSS., Letter 77.)
