Engineer (Post Office and Mining Settlement) identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Engineer (Settlement) 7 August 1947 on 104M. Changed to Engineer (locality) in the 1977 Supplement of the BC Gazetteer. Identified as Engineer (site) on 104M.
Labelled "Hope" on Geological Survey map 742, Atlin Mining District, 1899, to accompany GSC 1899 Report, Part B, Vol XII. Labelled "Hope" on BC Lands' map of Portion of Atlin, Bennet and Chilkat Mining Divisions, 1901, and on BC-Alaska Boundary Attas, sheet # 2 (date not cited). "Engineer Mine" labelled in this location on BC Mines Dept map of Atlin Mining District, drawn by E.A.Robinson, CE, Atlin, 1905, showing numerous claims in this immediate vicinity. "Gleanorville" labelled in this location on Taku Arm # 5, however publisher and date of this series in not cited.
Engineer Post Office was opened 1 September 1925; closed 27 October 1927; re-opened 21 June 1988; closed 31 October 1929. At the time of final closing, the post office was situated on the claim known as Plato 968.
