RUBY, a name much used for creeks and mining camps. In the central part of Pend Oreille County, some prospectors found rubies in a little creek, which was at once named Ruby Creek. In 1905, when a postoffice was established there, it received the name of Ruby. (T. D. Eastlick, in Names MSS. Letter 428.)
