Doriston (settlement) adopted 27 July 1945 on C.3589, as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Doriston (locality) 15 February 1983 on 92G/12.

Shaw Cove Post Office opened 15 July 1915; closed 15 May 1917; reopened 1 November 1917; name changed to Doriston Post Office 1 March 1918, Samuel Lloyd, postmaster. Post office closed 30 June 1923. At the time of closing, the post office was situated on Lot 3741.

"Fishing and logging settlement on the west shore of Seechelt [sic] Inlet. Named after Doris Lloyd, daughter of Samuel Lloyd, English cabinetmaker who settled here about 1913. Named after her because she was the oldest girl here when a post office was applied for. Doris Lloyd married Clifford Hammond."

According to Art Swannell, BCLS, who was surveying in this area in 1950, no one appeared to be living in Doriston; only two buildings were visible from the water. Population 18 (1941 Census); 6 (1966 Census); 3 (1971 Census); 4 (1981 Census).
