Northfield (Post Office & Station) adopted 12 December 1939 on 92/SE, as labelled on BC Lands' map 2A, 1913. Form of name changed to Northfield (Station) 3 April 1959 on 92G, once the post office was closed. Form of name changed to Northfield (community) 26 February 1982 on 92G/4.
Northfield Post Office was opened 1 November 1890. Changed to Sub Office #7 of Nanaimo Post Office 1 August 1958. Exact location of original post office not recorded; by 1958 the post office was located on Lot 12, Bk 1, Nanaimo Land District. Opening & closing dates and exact location of E&NR's Northfield station not recorded.
