Regional District of North Okanagan Regional District
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is a regional district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The RDNO was formed in 1965, and its head office is in the district municipality of Coldstream. The RDNO's largest population centre is the city of Vernon, which is located at the head of Okanagan Lake. The RDNO's other major communities include Lumby, Armstrong, Enderby, and Spallumcheen. The RDNO's local history dates back to the arrival of the first European settlers in the 1860s. The early settlers were primarily ranchers and farmers, and the region's economy was based on agriculture for many years. In the early 20th century, the Okanagan Valley began to develop as a tourist destination, and the RDNO's economy has since diversified to include tourism, winemaking, and manufacturing.
