Lavington Post Office was opened 1 December 1911.Norman H. Moncreiff, postmaster.
"After Lavington Park, Petworth, Sussex, England, home of Sir James Buchanan, Bart, who bought land here in the early 1900s. He was also interested in Coldstream Ranch and in White Valley Irrigation and Power Co., and in 1921 he became owner of the Ranch."
