Hupel (Post Office) adopted September 1932 on 82L/NE, as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Hupel (settlement) 10 July 1963 on 82L; subsequently adjusted to Hupel (community).
Hupel Post Office was opened 1 September 1910; closed 31 December 1947.
"After Herman (Mike) Hupel, an American of German descent who settled here in the 1890's and was first postmaster. Cross-eyed, but with a genial smile, Mike was a good neighbour and well-liked." (12th Report of the Okanagan Historical Society, 1948, citing their 6th Report, p.145)
