Cowichan Lake (Post Office) adopted in the 18th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1924. Incorporated as the Village Municipality of Lake Cowichan 19 August 1944. Lake Cowichan (Village, Post Office & Railway Station) confirmed 6 March 1952. Re-incorporated as a Town Municipality, effective 26 November 1996 per Letters Patent 19 December 1996. Lake Cowichan (Town) confirmed 28 April 1997.
