After John Robert Giscom(b)e, a black miner who came to the district in the 1860s; he died in Victoria about 1910.

John Robert Giscome was born in Jamaica about 1832, worked in the California gold fields and came to B.C. in the late 1850s or early 1860s. In partnership with Harry McDame, he prospected in Peace River and Cassiar country in the 1870s. (Article in B.C. Historical News, Vol. 18, No. 3, 1985)
