City of Trail incorporated 14 June 1901. Confirmed in 17th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1922, and 2 June 1950 on Columbia River Basin manuscript 13. Boundary extension 1 January 1969 to include the adjoining District of Tadanac. Further boundary extensions effective 10 July 1997 and 29 June 2000.
Trail Creek Post Office was opened 1 July 1891; renamed Trail Post Office 1 January 1897. See also the municipality's own website.
"From 1894 to 1901 known as Trail Creek or Trail Creek Landing....[the creek] takes its name from the Dewdney Trail which follows the course of this creek to the Columbia River."
The history of Trail really began in 1891 when the first ore from the nearby Le Roi mine was taken to the landing here for shipment, via the Columbia River, to the smelters at Butte, Montana....
