The dual name "Jellicoe (Station)-(Bankeir Post Office)" was adopted 14 August 1952 on 92/SE, located at 49 41 - 120 17. Name changed to the single form "Bankeir (Post Office)" and location adjusted 6 May 1954 on 92 H/NE, to 49 43 - 120 14. Form of name changed to Bankeir (settlement) in the 1966 BC Gazetteer; form of name changed to Bankeir (locality) 14 May 1982 on 92H/9; form of name changed to Bankeir (community) 29 November 1984 on 92 H/9.

Bankeir Post Office opened 1 October 1934, situated on L4747 adjacent to KVR's Jellicoe station; sometime before September 1953 the Post Office had been relocated to L2078 at the south end of Chain Lake, relocated again in 1957 to L4162 just north of Link Lake. Bankeir Post Office closed 14 September 1963.
