Brexton (Post Office) adopted 12 December 1939 on BC Lands' map 3K, not Fish Lake (Post Office) as had been labelled on Geological Survey sheet 430A, Bridge River, 1936. Identified as Brexton (settlement) in the 1966 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Brexton (locality) 31 May 1982 on 92J/15.

Fish Lake Post Office opened here 1 October 1934. Name changed to Brexton Post Office 12 July 1938. The Post Office name is a contraction of "B.R.X. Town" in turn named after the B.R.X. Mine (BC Mines Report, 1933, p.266). Brexton Post Office closed 30 September 1942.
