McGillivray Falls (Post Office & Station) adopted 6 September 1951. Form of name changed to McGillivray (Station) 22 June 1967; form of name changed to McGillivray (Community) 19 September 1978; form of name changed to McGillivray (Locality) 29 November 1984 (Ottawa file 203-2).

B.C. Geographical Names in Province of British Columbia

"McGillivray" identified as a station in 1928 PGE timetable, named in association with Mount McGillivray. McGillivray Falls Post Office opened 1 June 1929. PGE agreed in 1951 to change their station name to McGillivray Falls, to match post office name. Station not listed in timetables April 1958 onward. Post office closed 3 May 1961.
