Origin Notes and History of Ewing

Ewings Landing (Post Office and Steamer Landing) adopted 7 February 1951. Form of name changed to Ewing (Steamer Landing) 9 August 1963 on 82L. Form of name further adjusted to Ewing (Landing) 2 August 1966 on 82L/SW.
Shorts Point Post Office was opened 1 May 1905, Thomas A. Dundas postmaster. Name changed to Ewings Landing Post Office 1 December 1907, in association with the well-established name of the steamer landing. CPR steamer service cancelled sometime before April 1962. Post Office closed 15 May 1952.
Old name: Mordens Landing. The steamer landing was renamed after Robert Leckie Ewing, resident here since the early 1900's. Ewing took over the post office from E.C. Chamney 9 May 1908 and still holds it.
