Benvouline (farming settlement) adopted 1 December 1955 on 82E/NW. Form of name subsequently changed to Benvoulin (community).

Benvoulin was the name of the Scottish home of George Grant MacKay, CE, and early investor in Vancouver and Okanagan real estate, who had come to Vancouver in 1888. He bought land here in 1891 and gave the name to the district. MacKay bought the Coldstream Ranch as agent for his friend Lord Aberdeen (see Aberdeen Lake), and had interests in other Okanagan properties and property development schemes during the early 1890's. His company built the Kalamaka Hotel at Vernon. (12th Report of the Okanagan Historical Society, 1948, citing F.M. Buckland).
