Westbank (Town) adopted 6 October 1936 on Ottawa file OBF 1525. Form of name changed to Westbank (Post Office & Steamer Landing) in the 1953 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Westbank (community) 15 March 1983 on 82E/13.
Westbank Post Office was opened 1 May 1902, N.S. Marshall postmaster.
Name suggested c1902 by John Davidson, settler in 1892. (12th Report of the Okanagan Historical Society, 1948, citing Gellatly, 49, 57; Ok. 6:155).
At the side of the Okanagan Highway, Parks Canada has installed a National Historic Site cairn "to mark the Okanagan Brigade Trail, a link in the fur-trading route from New Caledonia (north-central British Columbia) to the Columbia River."
