Origin Notes and History of Albas
References to Albas that document the origin of its place name
Albas (Settlement) adopted 20 November 1972 on 82 M/3, as identified in 1947 Directory and on various provincial maps.
Albus Post Office was opened 1 March 1914, located on Sec 2, Tp 26, Range 8, W6M; mis-spelled "Albus" on BC Lands' map 1E, 1915. Post Office closed 15 December 1926.
Origin/ significance not known. Possibly a contraction of Albert Bass, trapper and guide living in a cabin at Seymour Landing (BC Mines Report 1907, p.132). Regional District advised 11 March 1983 that the name is well established locally, even though the year-round population had dwindled to a handful in the years before this area became part of Shuswap Lake Marine Park. No buildings remain.
