Edelweiss (settlement) adopted 3 April 1952 on 82N/SE, as identified in Directories since 1928 or earlier; form of name changed to Edelweiss (locality) 29 November 1984 (Ottawa file 203-2).
Built c1912 by the Canadian Pacific Railway as residences for the Swiss mountain guides hired to accompany climbing parties (Canadian Alpine Journal, Vol XXVII-2, 1940, p.231).
