Trout Lake (Post Office) adopted 4 October 1951 on Columbia River Basin manuscript #21, as labelled on Geological Survey sheet 19A, 1911, and on BC map 1EM, 1915, and as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Trout Lake (settlement) 31 January 1956; further changed to Trout Lake (Community) 10 June 1998 on 82K/12.
Trout Lake Post Office opened 1 August 1895; closed 5 August 1954.
