Lakelse Lake Summer Settlement adopted 4 November 1948 on 103I/7 as labeled on Reference map 3M "Prince Rupert" (1916, 1921, 1929). Feature type change to Settlement as indicated in L.I. 16 June 1967 based on census data and population size. 1971 census data recorded population as 134, 1976 population recorded as 213. Likely named in association with nearby Lakelse Lake, Hotspings, and River. See Lakelse Lake for name origin information.
