"From the Haisla name Wiwaa (pronounced wee-WAH) meaning 'many creeks'. The Haisla recognize three Wiwaa areas, each of which is owned by the holder of a particular clan name in each generation. For instance, Middle Wiwaa is owned by the person who has been given the Beaver clan name Q'agwais (Sam Robinson in 2007). The name and associated stewardship area ownership will pass on to the owner's heir (usually his sister's son in this matrilineal society) at a memorial 'settlement feast' held a year after the deceased owner's death. That is how these Haisla clan stewardship areas pass down from generation to generation. The three wiwaa clan ownership areas are:
North [Na'labisc Wiwaa] Hugh Creek watershed, a Blackfish clan stewardship area;
Middle [Oyuwisc Wiwaa] Weewanie Creek watershed, a Beaver clan area;
