Bulkley House (Settlement) adopted 1 March 1938 on Geological Survey sheet 448A, Hazelton, as labelled on BC map 5A, 1917. Confirmed 5 July 1951 on 93 M. Form of name changed to Bulkley (Station) 25 July 1975 on 93 NW and 94 SW. Form of name changed back to Bulkley House (Locality) 13 May 1983 on 93 M/9.
After Captain Charles S. Bulkley, in command of the scientific party sent out by the Collins Overland Telegraph enterprise. "...August 17, 1865... we selected a spot for our house on the eastern side of the lake, just south of the edge of the delta made by the river which came in from the north." (personal recollections of J.T. Rothrock, member of the scientific party, in his 11 January 1913 letter to E.O.S.Scholefield; Env.C 76). See also Bulkley River. HBC Trading Post once located here (dates not cited in BC files). Bulkley House identified on Trutch's 1871 map of BC; "Bulkley House (abandoned)" identified on BC map 1A, 1912.
