Pendleton Bay (Post Office) adopted 4 September 1947 on 93K. Form of name changed to Pendleton Bay (settlement) 21 April 1966 on 93NW. Subsequently changed to Pendleton Bay (locality).

Post Office was to have been established in the latter months of 1947; "...although opening of this post office was authorized, it was impossible to obtain the services of a Postmaster, so the post office was not opened." (L.I. #2429029, 21 May 1951 letter from Postal Inspector, Vancouver, file S.1.52). Desmond Carrier, BCLS, reported a small settlement of 17 people here in the mid-1950s; 242 people recorded in the 1962 census, dropping back to 21 people in the 1976 census. "There are both year round and seasonal residents in the Pendleton Bay area - a notable population plus commercial resort and campgrounds/recreation areas; the settlement 1 km north is [also] commonly considered to be part of Pendleton Bay."
