Cinema (Post Office) adopted 9 May 1963 on 93G. Coordinates altered and form of name changed to Cinema (settlement) 18 April 1966 on 93G/1. Form of name changed to Cinema (locality) 16 August 1979, as advised by Cariboo Regional District planning dept.

Cinema Post Office opened 1 February 1924, situated in NE 1/4 Lot 4598. Relocated 26 November 1958, to SE 1/4 Lot 8566. Closed 1 December 1964 "with little likelihood that it will re-open" (January 1966 advice from Quesnel Post Office)

Dr. Lloyd Champlain and his 'housekeeper' sold $800 worth of vegetables to PGE construction crews 1919-1920, and used the money to travel to Hollywood. Upon his return some years later, he named his property "Cinema" as a reminder of the California foray (1993 advice from Hixon Women's Institute).

Called "Cinema City" by Dr. Lloyd Champlain, senior partner of Freeto and Champlain, who thought it a suitable place for establishing a moving picture industry.
