Macalister (Railway Point) was adopted 6 May 1954 on 93 B. Form of name changed to Macalister (Community) 15 April 1983 on 93 B/8. Form of name changed to Macalister (Locality) 8 February 1989 on 93 B/8.

B.C. Geographical Names in Province of British Columbia

Named after James M. Macalister, first postmaster. Mr. Macalister and his family arrived here in 1911 by horse and wagon, and were still living here in May 1959. Mrs. Charlotte Macalister died in hospital at Quesnel in February 1963, age 80.
