Brentwood Bay (Post Office) adopted 6 November 1934 on National Defense sheet 415d, Saanich (file S.2.33). Confirmed 5 May 1949 on Chart 3451. Form of name changed to Brentwood (Community) 15 December 1982 on 92G/11.
Sluggett Post Office opened here 1 August 1892, named after first postmaster J.Sluggett; the district around here was called Sluggetts. When the railway was complete (date not cited) the station was named Brentwood, after the English estate, and (ancestral ?) home of Mr. Horne-Payne, chairman of the board of directors, BC Electric Railway. The district around here became more frequently called Brentwood. Brentwood (station) labelled on BC map 2A, 1913. Sluggett Post Office was renamed Brentwood Bay Post Office 16 March 1925. Department of Highways ferry landing, Brentwood, was subsequently located here.
