Origin Notes and History of Esperanza
References to Esperanza that document the origin of its place name
Esperanza (settlement) adopted 17 July 1946 on 92 E/15. Form of name changed to Experanza (Steamer Landing) 3 December 1959 on C.3662, as identified in the 1953 BC Gazetteer. Further changed to Esperanza (locality) 15 February 1983 on 92E/15.
Ceepeecee Post Office was opened 15 May 1926 at the Canadian Packing Company cannery, Lot 386. Post Office was relocated about 1 mile westward to the settlement of Esperanza, Lot 391, 1 April 1955. Renamed Esperanza Post Office 16 February 1960, to conform to the name of the settlement. Northland Navigation Company cancelled steamer service to this location 22 December 1971. Esperanza Post Office closed 29 August 1974.

This locality is now operated as a spiritual retreat, the Nootka Mission, on a year-round basis; 8-12 families are resident here, with a good wharf and fuel facilities (1998 advice from Hydrographic Service and Village of Tahsis staff).
