Bloedel (Post Office & Steamer Landing) adopted 6 January 1949 on C.3565. Form of name changed to Bloedel (Post Office) 3 March 1960 on C.3594, following cancellation of scheduled steamer service. Form of name changed to Bloedel (Landing) 4 January 1972 on 92K-J, per advice from CHS re: active shipping facility here. Form of name changed to Bloedel (Locality) 15 June 1982, as instructed by the Regional District.
Bloedel Post Office was opened 15 November 1925; closed 30 November 1962. "The settlement of Bloedel has been removed... Ore shipping facilities of Ocean Mines Ltd are situated inside a 5-fathom bank, a short distance northward of the mouth of Mohun Creek." (BC Pilot, 1969, p.377)
Named in 1925 by Sidney Garfield Smith, managing director of the company, after Julius Harold Bloedel (1864 - ) of Seattle, president of Bloedel, Stewart & Welch, the firm which began logging in this area in 1911. Later MacMillan Bloedel Ltd.
