Roy (settlement) adopted 6 April 1950 on 92/NW as a long-established local name, and as labelled on BC map 2C, 1919 et seq, and identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Roy (locality) 29 November 1984 (Ottawa file 203-2).

Roy Post Office opened 1 May 1896, named after Mr. Roy, early settler. Post Office closed 22 February 1943.
