Ka:ook (Former First Nation Village) adopted 1 April 2011, per the provisions of the Maa-nulth Treaty.

The site of an early longhouse, identified as 7Kao:kwat'h' on a map of local place names prepared by J. Griggs in 1990, in conjunction with Elders of the Ka:'yu:'k't'h' Nation.

Once the site of a winter village - the Capital of the Kaouk people. Ka:ouk is the preferred spelling, and means "lake" The name refers to Fair Harbour, which used to be a lake rather than an inlet. (December 2010 advice from Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k:tles7et'h' First Nations.
