Adopted 14 March 1929 on 94SE, as labelled on BC map 3E, 1912, and on BC map 1H, 1917 (file H.3.28).
"The origin of the name is not known, however, it is likely a surname." (--- vol.4, p.57)
Origin/significance not known. Note that Osborne River (tributary to Doig River) appears on the same 1912 map, having been named by James Akins, DLS, after one G. Osborn, a chainman (survey assistant) on his 1911 survey in the Peace River Block; perhaps "Doig" was another member of Akins' party?
Subsequently adopted on other BC and Alberta maps, and on Map of The Northwest Territories (Ottawa file OBF 1014).Headwaters in Alberta; flows into BC at 56 57-120 00.
