Tsay-kay-dene (locality) adopted 15 February 1991 on 94C/15. Form of name changed to Tsay Keh Dene (locality) 25 January 1995 on 94 C/15.

Built in the summer of 1990 and called at the time "New Finlay River". Ingenika Band Manager confirmed in February 1991 that there are approximately 30 homes on the site - most to be occupied year-round. By Band Council Resolution the Ingenika Band changed their name to Tsay Keh Dene (date not cited); Band Manager advised in January 1995 that the correct name of the locality is the same as the band name - Tsay Keh Dene.

Tsay Key Dene is a self-descriptor for the former Ingenika Band, and means "people of the mountains"
