Lions Bay (Steamer Landing) adopted 3 April 1959 on 92 G; corrected to Lions Bay (Railway Station) 8 May 1959. Incorporated as a Village Municipality 17 December 1970. Lions Bay (Village) confirmed 15 April 1982 on 92 G/6.

The PGER flag stop here was named after the two peaks that rise above the bay, "The Lions".

The original name for these peaks is Chích'iyuy Elxwí7kn (the Twin Sisters). They are named after the daughters of a high Chieftain who were turned to stone by the supernatural powers of the mighty Transformer Brothers. Each peak represents a sister and to this day the white patch of snow which rests between the peaks serves as a reminder of the white mountain goat wool which the sisters were weaving when they were immortalized as mountains.
