"Cowans Point (steamer landing, summer resort)" identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, as listed in the 1923 Directory. Form of name changed to Cowans Point (locality) 15 April 1982 on 92G/6.

Point Cowan Post Office was opened 1 August 1911, situated on Lot 1411, and so-labelled on BC map 2A, 1913. Post Office closed 19 September 1919. Cowan's Point Landing [sic] identified in Union Steam Ship Company timetables until June 1950. Described as a "small summer resort" in 1959 BC Pilot, Vol.1, p.161, with no regular steamer calls.
