Dollarton (Post Office) adopted 6 February 1948 on C.3434, as labelled on BC map 5B, 1929. Form of name changed to Dollarton (community) 19 July 1979 on 92G/7, as recommended by District of North Vancouver planning department.

Roslyn (settlement) labelled in this location on BC map 2B, 1914. Dollarton Post Office was opened 17 July 1918 situated in Lot 471. "Dollarton (post office and lumber settlement)" identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Dollarton Post Office amalgamated as a sub-office within Vancouver Post Office 17 October 1960.

A lumbermill town belonging to the Dollar Company, headed by Captain Robert Dollar (1844 - ). Captain Dollar also founded the Dollar Steamship Company, a major enterprise in its day, and was the inspiration for the "Cappy Ricks" character in the stories by Peter B. Kyne. Dollarville, Michigan, is another town which owes its name and existence to the energy of the captain.
