Ladner (post office and town) identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer; confirmed 11 February 1936 on 92G/3. The dual name "Ladner (Delta P.O.) (Settlement)" was adopted 22 August 1969 on 92G/3a. Dual name dismantled into its' component parts July 1993 by Ottawa.

Delta Post Office was opened 1 March 1897, closed 30 June 1901; reopened 1 March 1903, closed 31 December 1906; reopened 1 April 1907, closed 18 October 1960 (exact locations not recorded). Ladner Post Office was renamed Delta Post Office 1 March 1969.

So-called from the formation of the land by alluvial deposit from the Fraser River (Gosnell Year Book, 1897). The Fraser River delta extends, of course, far beyond the limits of the municipality, reaching the vicinity of Hope. River deltas are often triangular in shape, resembling the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet, delta, hence the name.
