Adopted 19 July 1979, as recommended by City of Vancouver. This district of Vancouver wasnamed by L.A. Hamilton, the C.P.R. land commissioner. A newspaper advertisement announced in1891 that "the clearing of the Land being nearly completed in that new and beautifully situated part of the Vancouver Townside known as Fairview," the C.P.R. was now offering lots for sale. Named by Lauchlan Alexander Hamilton (1852-1941), CPR land commissioner in the 1880s. An advertisement of J.M. Browning, commissioner of CPR's Vancouver Townsite, in the Daily News Advertiser, 1 July 1891, states: "The clearing of the Land being nearly completed in that new and beautifully situated part of the Vancouver Townsite known as Fairview, the Canadian Pacific Railway are now offering for sale on exceptionally favourable terms a limited number of lots...".
