Boat Basin (Post Office) adopted 15 July 1936 (Geographic Board of Canada minutes, file C.1.33, Ottawa file OBF 1316). Confirmed 20 August 1947 on C.3640 (file C.1.33). Form of name changed to Boat Basin (Locality) 31 January 1983 on 92 E/8.

B.C. Geographical Names in Province of British Columbia

Hesquiat Post Office opened 1 April 1912 at Hesquiat (Village) at the west entrance of Hesquiat Harbour; closed 1 June 1917. Re-opened 16 April 1936 at Lot 1599 at the head of the harbour, still called Hesquiat Post Office; renamed Boat Basin Post Office 1 July 1936, being the well-established name for the waters at the head of the harbour. Boat Basin Post Office closed 2 March 1982.
