Hi'tatis (First Nation Village) adopted 1 April 2011, per the provisions of the Maa-nulth Treaty.

B.C. Geographical Names in Province of British Columbia

The name means "elevated flat area" and is one of the earliest Uchucklesaht villages. The name is also sometimes pronounced HIS la tiss. (Uchucklesaht Tribe, December 2010) The former Elhlatees IR 2 covered a portion of this Uchuckesaht village.
