Hiina'is (Former First Nation Village) adopted 1 April 2011, per the provisions of the Maa-nulth Treaty. An image of the written name shows the preferred orthography.

B.C. Geographical Names in Province of British Columbia

The name means "end of the lake" - this was a summer village, and a fishing station for sockeye spawn. (Uchucklesaht Tribe, December 2010). The brood stock for Great Central Lake and Sproat Lake was obtained from this location.
