Sproat Lake (Post Office) adopted 2 June 1949 on 92F/7 (file B.1.44). Form of name changed to Sproat Lake (settlement) in the 1966 BC Gazetteer; subsequently changed to Sproat Lake (community). See Sproat Lake (lake) for origin information.

Sproat Lake Post Office was opened 1 June 1892; closed 1 June 1894; re-opened 16 June 1927; closed 27 September 1952. At the time of closing, the post office was located on DL 41, Blk 24. A supplementary note indicates that the post office didn't close until 14 March 1953.
