References to Tloohat-a that document the origin of its place name
Tloohat-a (Former First Nation Village) adopted 1 April 2011, per the provisions of the Maa-nulth Treaty.
"They were doing this on the rocky shore of Tloohat'a, this is a village where the water comes down just west of Tsusiat Falls. His country extended [from] Cuusayiiaht and reached the point of Tloohat'a. They were at Tloohat'a and they simply had no time to get hold of canoes, no time to wake up. They sank at once, were all drowned, not one survived." (Huu-ay-aht Place Names in the Chief Louie Nookemus historial accounts, c1964, shared September 2009 in the context of the Maa-nulth Treaty.) the reference to everyone drowning might be the 26 January 1700 tsunami that devastated the coast.]
"Tluuhata [sic]: traditional village site of the Tayii Hawilth of Huu-ay-aht. The chief would utilize this village making annual treks from March to June for whaling and sealing." (West Coast Trail brochure, published by Parks Canada.)
