Hoo-ii (Former First Nation Village) adopted 1 April 2011, per the provisions of the Maa-nulth Treaty.

This is the village from which the Huu-ay-aht take their name: long before the arrival of Europeans, the First Nations that inhabited the eastern side of Barkley Sound amalgamated at this place, Hoo-ii, to form the Huu-ay-aht First Nations. (Huu-ay-aht First Nations Natural Resouce Office); "They were in hiding at Hoo-ii. Naanulthin-alth was the name of the Chief who went in the big canoes." (Huu-ay-aht Place Names in the Chief Louie Nookemus historial accounts, c1964, shared September 2009 in the context of the Maa-nulth First Nations Treaty.) An archaeological dig site; archaeological evidence indicates that Hoo-ii was a major village of considerable proportions; some remains are 5000+ years old.
