Origin Notes and History of Salmon Beach

Adopted 23 November 2011 on 92C/14, as a well-established local name, and as identified in Regional District records & plans, and in tax rolls.
Salmon Beach (community) is the well-known name; legal description Plan 510, Section 49, Clayoquot District. "The area described was originally surveyed as 'Toquart Townsite, Toquart Harbour, Barclay Sound' by William Devereux, May 15th 1893. At the time the townsite consisted of both Section 49 and Section 50, for a total of 1061 lots. The 674 lots located on Section 50 are no longer registered with Land Titles and it is assumed that they reverted to the Crown for taxes. Little is known about the property prior to 1987 other than these lands and lots were part of an estate held in trust by the 1st National Bank of Oregon on behalf of an unknown American. These lands were purchased from the estate by Nick Andreeff in 1987, the original Principal of Toquart Recreational Village Ltd. Between 1987 and 1992 logging and some development took place. In 1992 the company went into receivership and was purchased by Marhal Investments Ltd who undertook to develop the lands as Salmon Beach Recreational Village. The first lots were sold in 1993 and at the present time there are 376 taxable lots of which approximately 250-300 have improvements on them ranging from RVs to single family dwellings. Current zoning restricts occupancy to 180 days per year." (September 2011 advice from Price Carson, Salmon Beach Owners Association.)
