Hosmatqts'os was the name of the Huu-ay-aht village once located just behind the point. "They went into the woods at Hoo-ii, they who lived at Hosmatqts'os." (Huu-ay-aht Place Names in the Chief Louie Nookemus historial accounts, c1964, shared September 2009 in the context of the Maa-nulth Treaty.)
