Duck Range (Post Office) adopted 3 November 1932 on 82L/NW, as labelled on BC map 1EM, 1915. Form of name changed to Duck Range (settlement) 6 December 1956 on 82L/12.
Duck Range Post Office was opened 1 July 1908; closed 17 April 1943. General limits of settlement provided in RCMP Report 15 September 1956: Duck Range, Tp 19, R 14, W6M, takes in that area from Pritchard to Monte Creek, and up to Duck Meadows; inhabited by about 25 people who ranch in the area. (file S.3.27)
"Jacob Duck recorded a pre-emption in July 1865, which, however, had been previously pre-empted by Hutin in January 1864. By pre-emption and purchase of other pre-emptors, Jacob Duck's aggregate was 1,605 acres."
Named for A.W. Duck, rancher.
