Dallas (settlement) adopted 15 January 1971 on 92I/9, as identified in Department of Education school lists, and identified on road signs (1962 or earlier); unincorporated, located 7 miles east of Kamloops, since amalgamated within Kamloops municipal boundary. Form of name changed to Dallas (community) 24 August 1978 on 92I/NE.

This Dallas is named after neither Dallas Texas, nor Alexander Grant Dallas, a notable HBC agent and director. It takes its name, instead from Dallas Johnson (1887-1694), who farmed six miles east of Kamloops from 1902 until after World War II, when much of his land was purchased for Veteran’s Land Act settlement. The name was chosen in 1955 by the settler veterans at a meeting called to decide upon a name for the community.
