Darfield (Post Office) adopted 3 March 1955 on 92P. Form of name changed to Darfield (community) 15 December 1982 on 92P/8.

Darfield Post Office was opened 16 July 1937; so-named by first postmaster Hubert Janning as a derivation of the name of the surrounding Darlington School District, and as a nod to his childhood home in Germany, Darfeld.
